Learn BA · Lesson 4 of 5 · Northstar

Frame one small piece of the work.

Use the template below to turn Northstar’s original request into a decision and a useful next check. A few sentences are enough.

Your evidence · E-003

A dispatcher makes a promise while the customer is on the line, then calls to check whether an allocated part is physically held. A rural manager describes long travel and scarce qualified technicians. A technology lead says reservation identifiers exist, but consistent updates have not been established.

What would you check before recommending a platform? Use only what you know so far. It is acceptable to say that the evidence is insufficient.

Write a few sentences in each box. Your notes are kept in this browser tab for this session; they are not sent anywhere. Download a copy to keep them.

Compare a worked decision frame

Decision: The Investment Council must choose the next defensible commitment to improve service promises.

Evidence: E-003 suggests uncertain reservation meaning and rural capacity constraints. These observations do not establish which cause dominates.

Next check: Reconcile a small sample of reservation events, time the actual checking, and test rural exceptions. Ask whether better signals, changed practice, or capacity would address the observed constraint.

Challenge: If the signals are dependable and manual checking is the main delay, a narrow integration could be preferable. If skills and travel dominate, software may leave the binding constraint in place.

This is an introductory framing example, not the full investment recommendation.
